Social Assessment

Essentials

A Social Assessment will determine what your company has in place in the way of confidentiality agreements, including acceptable use; and Social Media policies. The purpose of this assessment is to troubleshoot any holes in Social Media security protocol; and integrate effective policies with your organization’s overall Security and Social Media goals.

  • SecureState is one of the only Information Security firms that offer an assessment of confidentiality agreements, acceptable use and Social Media policies to meet industry best practices
  • Are your policies mature enough to protect the organization’s assets in this new age of Social Media?

Often times, the Information Security department is the last to be consulted about the Social Media strategy for an organization. Marketing, Human Resources, and Sales all want to jump in and use this latest and greatest technology in their business model. However, what are the effects of this latest craze on the security of an organization? Depending on your industry, there may be regulatory requirements regarding Social Media. If policies have been implemented, they must address all of the individual risks associated with using Social Media; either as a corporate tool, or by the individual employees. The goals of a Social Assessment are: to determine if policies exist, conclude that they are in fact mature enough to protect the organization’s assets; and find out if they are actually enforced.

A Social Assessment can ensure that your policies and procedures around social media are in line with industry best practices. This solid baseline will help to develop a tailored approach while producing more information that can help creative effective policies to ensure your organization has addressed all of the security issues surrounding Social Media; and that they are effectively implemented.

Did You Know?

  • Social networks are now the fourth most popular online activity, even ahead of personal email
  • Many organizations have no idea what their employees are posting on social networks, which may lead to security issues
  • Social Assessments help determine if company policies follow industry best practices

Our Approach and Methodology

Phase I – Pre-engagement Interactions:

In this phase, SecureState works with the client to establish the rules of engagement as well as the scope and exchange contact information for both parties. SecureState provides a detailed Project Charter which contains information on scope and everything that will be required to conduct the analysis. The Project Charter is discussed during the kickoff call prior to the beginning of the engagement.

Phase II – Information Gathering:

SecureState begins the Information Gathering phase by determining what policies, procedures and documentation the client has in place for addressing Social Media in the enterprise. Once this information is determined, we can begin the detailed review phase.

Phase III – Social Media Review and Interviews:

Using the information provided in the information gathering phase, SecureState conducts a series of interviews with key players in the organization that have an influence into Social Media Policies. Key individuals such as Marketing, Legal, HR and IT Security are interviewed to help gather a complete picture as to the company culture and current use of Social Media in the enterprise.

Phase IV – Reporting and Deliverables:

SecureState will provide a detailed report showing the current state of your organization’s Social Media strategy as it aligns with industry best practices; including analyzing information from current policies, as well as interviews conducted in the past. In addition, results from analyzing industry regulations as they relate to your industry will be included in overall recommendations to improve the Social Media strategy and program at your organization.
